The Story of Savon de Marseille

Marseille is the capital of the southern French region la Provence. It provides the main components needed to produce soap that are: Oil Olive, salt and carbonates. This is why it is since the 12th century a production center for soap.

In 1688 Louis XIV, the famous French king, authenticated Savon de Marseille by defining and patenting its production process. The only oil to be used is vegetable oil, to this day.

This King’s law made Savon de Marseille very famous and build a reputation world wide. In the 18th century there were more then thirty soap factories in Marseille.

The name name de Marseille is protected since 2003. It stands for a certified process and insures that products only contain vegetable oil and no chemical additives.
